First Post: Who am I, and what's this all about?

Hello, and welcome to Dan On Russia!

My name is Dan. This Blog will eventually become a one stop resource for up-to-date political news from Russia, both domestic and international. I'll gather stories from various news outlets and give you, the reader, the skinny, doing my best to provide context and analysis.

Where do I get off telling you about Russia, you might ask?

For starters I have four years of solid academic work on Russian history and language, one of which was spent in Vladimir, Russia (For further reading see my other blog DanInRussia, a regretfully brief account of my time there). Furthermore I am a total Russophile and ravenous consumer of news media. Russian news is my hobby.

So if you're curious about Russia, if you've always wondered, "just who is Vladimir Putin?" but were afraid to ask, well then kick back and let me do the hard work for you. I should begin posting real content by the end of the week.

Feel free to keep me honest in the comments section as well, though I'll make every effort to provide full citations for all of my writing here.
